If you're here, then you've probably downloaded my application simulation program. This is a command line utility developed with the python programming language that I made to accompany an essay I wrote for a college class, which can be found Here The program demonstrates why technology is not as great as we think it is by showing you the processes of some of the apps we use on a daily basis, as well as the way artificial intelligence handles user input sometimes. I recommend reading the essay and following along by typing any of the below commands to augment my reasoning.
Appsim has a few commands you can type to access various modules of its demonstration capabilities. If you need a refference, you can type help at any time from the main console. Other actions are listed here.
The about command gives you an abridged version of this webpage.
AI (or artificial intelligence) can be very powerful, but can also be very faulty. Typing this command will open a wizard which will guide you through a typical day using your computer and show you some of the behind the scenes actions as you encounter errors at every turn.
This command opens this webpage in your browser.
Typing this command will close the program
Facebook gathers a surprising amount of data about you, and it does it constantly. This module demonstrates a fraction of what happens when you create a post. Upon launch you will be asked to sign in to your account, then you will be presented with a prompt asking you what you would like to do. The only options are to post or exit this module. If you choose to post, you can type your post content, then presented with a few further steps you can take, such as tagging friends or editing visibility settings. Once you are done, appsim will show you what Facebook gathers about you and the device you are using before you upload your post.
Google also saves a lot of data on you. As the world's leading search and email provider, it has access to mountains of data about your life. Opening this module of appsim will first ask you to sign in with your gmail account, then prompt you to search. After you enter a search term and press enter, the program will print its actions to the screen as it carries them out. Once it is finished, the google search will open in your browser.
When you take a picture, your camera/phone saves a lot of metadata to the image file. It is an unbelievable amount, and you can view it all by selecting a .jpg file and watching what happens.
As some of the messages that are output to the screen to show processing steps can disappear somewhat quickly, I have listed them all here. I did atempt to fix this in code by adding a slight delay between each print command, but if text is still scrolling too fast for you to read it, you can view each module's output below.

If you don't trust that appsim is just that, an application simulator, you can view its source code below. All messages are predefined text that is printed to the screen, not generated by functions and processes actually doing anything.
